BUNNELL -- Dashing toward a Sept. 15 special election, candidates for a state Senate seat tried to sway Flagler County voters Friday with a message of lower taxes and smaller government.
Republicans Art Graham, Stan Jordan and John Thrasher are battling to replace Sen. Jim King, whose July death opened a spot in a sprawling district that includes parts of Flagler and Volusia counties.
During a forum at the Flagler County government center, the candidates spent a large part of the time targeting government itself.
"Government should not grow faster than the ability of people to pay for it," said Thrasher, a former state House speaker who lives in St. Augustine.
Jordan, a member of the Duval County School Board, said he recently stood alone on his board in voting against a tax increase.
"I'm not going to vote to raise taxes," Jordan said. "I'm going to tell you that right now." Read More>>>
